With the onset of summer, Christie’s brings in the heat to the art market by introducing a classic art auction of the old masters of craftsmanship. Having said that, the auctions are live from July 2, 2024, to July 10, 2024, and the bidding is online. A similar exhibition of these artifacts will start on June 28 in London.
The auction house presents masterworks like Quentin Metsys’s The Madonna of the Cherries, Titian’s Rest on the Flight to Egypt, George Stubbs’ Mares and Foals in an extensive Landscape, and Frans Hals’ Portrait of a Gentleman of the de Wolff family on sale as the series of Old Masters Part I sale on July 2. On this same day, another auction, the Old Masters Prints sale features Giulio Campagnola and Domenico Campagnola’s charming Shepherds in a Landscape alongside Albrecht Dürer’s Saint Eustace and Melencolia I with a complete first edition of Francisco Goya’s Caprichos. The Exceptional Sale furthermore offers a unique opportunity to acquire remarkable items integrated with the history including Pelé’s 1962 FIFA World Cup winner’s medal and a bridesmaid’s dress designed by Norman Hartnell for the royal wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, and stunning Greek bronze head of Eros from the Sydney J. Lamon collection.
On July 3, the visitor can explore fine European and British paintings, sculptures, drawings, and watercolors as part of the Old Masters Part II auction. Additionally, it holds the Antiquities sale to present a selection of artifacts from ancient cultures, led by an Attic black-figured amphora depicting Herakles’ Tenth Labor. Lastly, on July 10, it holds the auction of other valuables and books.
Finishing up, the exhibition plus auction has some of the finest works from around the world, bridging the different times. Be it art, artifacts, prints, or manuscripts, the auction items are wisely chosen.
