“Thus, over Life’s outward aspect passes the series of events, and within is being painted a set of pictures. The two correspond but are not one. We do not get the leisure to view thoroughly this studio within us. Portions of it now and then catch our eye, but the greater part remains out of sight in the darkness.”
These profound and well-thought-out words by Rabindranath Tagore illustrate how enlightening his literature is. Unbinding a chapter from his book of life and intellect, AstaGuru presents a set of 35 hand-written letters and 14 envelopes of Rabindranath Tagore for auction from June 26 to June 27, 2025.
The opening bid for this exceptional lot is set at ₹5 Crores, with a higher estimate indicating it could soar to ₹7 Crores. The writings are from the years 1927-1936, the years which remarked his success in exploring new themes and languages in literature. In 1927, he went to South Asia and in 1929, to Canada, Japan, and Indo-China. To France, England, Germany, Denmark, Russia, and America in 1930 and to Iran in 1931. His creative work continued in every region despite his frequent outward activity. During this time, his poetry transcended passion and imagination, reaching a super-sensory region of the spirit. His writings took a power and tone in spiritual revelation. This time further let the artist paint with his subconscious mind.
The writings of the time were immensely important as it was his finest and belonged to his mature period. Though ₹7 Crores is significant for many, the value is still short of $1 Million, which will be an injustice to his legacy, but that’s an opinion we may talk about later.
