The artistic history of Russian culture took its pace in the 19th century when a layer of nationalism unfolded, further contributing to the prospects for the art of the future. Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, one of the most famous and outstanding Russian artists, turned to folklore and epic subjects to forerun the symbolism and art nouveau in Russia, further conducing to bring artistic revolution in Russia. Striving the universalism and synthesis of Vasnetsov’s art, the Tretyakov Gallery hosted an exhibition of the artist’s work on his 175th birth anniversary, which is going to end on November 4, 2024.
The participants of this exhibition are Vyatka V. and A. Vasnetsovs Art Museum, Archangelsk Art Museum, Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum, State Russian Museum, State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, State Museum of History, State Shchusev Museum of Architecture, Omsk Regional M. Vrubel Art Museum, Yaroslavl Art Museum, Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Moscow, Abramtsevo Estate Museum, V. Polenov Estate Museum, State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO and private collections, who will together display 200 pieces of art and graphics and scenic sketches.
The exhibition will include diverse artworks of Vasnetsov, with the best works by Apollinary and Andrey Vasnetsov. Apollinary, the younger brother of Vasnetsov was the first Russian artist who composed artworks on the theme of architecture and everyday life, whereas Andrey Vasnetsov, Victor’s grandson, was the severe style founder who became a great master of monumental and easel paintings. The Vasnetsovs were the artist thinkers who not only created an emerging style of Russian art but also raised eternal questions to the viewers for the comprehension of genuine beauty and harmony.
Some of the important works displayed are Alenushka by V. M. Vasnetsov, Ivan-Tsarevich by V. M. Vasnetsov, Portrait of Y. A. Prakhova by V. M. Vasnetsov, Elegy by A. M. Vasnetsov, Morning by A. M. Vasnetsov, Moon Shadow over Feodosiya by A. M. Vasnetsov, Heralds by A. M. Vasnetsov, Breakfast by A. V. Vasnetsov, Conversation by A. V. Vasnetsov, and Grand Dinner by A. V. Vasnetsov. With them, there are around 200 artworks to be displayed.
The mesmerizing art exhibition not only is a reflection on the past, the most significant era of Russian society and politics of the time, but also the largest Vasnetstov collection display of all time that begins with triumphing the Russian art and inventions. The timings of the exhibition are:
