Scrubby Bay: Touring the Most Secluded Cabin

Scrubby Bay is a remote cabin located in the Banks Peninsula of New Zealand. Enjoying the picturesque views and the Antarctic climate, here’s how the architecture and interiors stand apart.

Scrubby Bay

Imagine your senses being caught up in the babbling sound of the ocean, the picturesque view of the dusky hills around, sun-drenched lower plains filled with hay, earthy and sweet-smelling air, and the ethereal atmosphere of freshness. As you open your eyes, all you see is a paradisiac and never-ending nature; all you hear is the calming soundscape composed by nature, and all you breathe is the scent of the landscape, which is an intermingled result of wood, grass, and pollen. It’s all you have ever manifested for a long time, and then you realize that this blossoming experience is not for a moment but for a few days so that when you unplug from the fast-moving world, to remain in the bliss of eternal raw nature. Suddenly, your thoughts appear to be disappearing, and your head was never so light before. The calming meadow between the vegetation-capped mountains and hills is even better when the moon rises in the sky, and there is an excellent stage show of the stars. Between the chaos of life, you now have peace of mind. But it’s all possible when you decide to choose your next vacation in the most secluded cabin, Scrubby Bay. Let me take you on a virtual trip to the cabin house for now so that you have an answer to the question, of whether you really want to make this trip while appreciating the architectural beauty.

About the Project: Scrubby Bay.

Scrubby Bay is a cabin house with the sole motive of reconnection with important people and nature. Located in New Zealand on a working sheep and cattle farm on the Banks Peninsula with advantageous coastal views, Scrubby Bay is an extremely remote but safe cabin house. The weather is sub-Antarctic which comes from the bay and down the mountains and nearby there is a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, dolphins, and whales.

The place is designed to age so it gets better with time. It can accommodate around 16 people with its three main bedrooms, two gathering areas, one entertainment deck facing oceans, and a pool on the mountainside. But there is much more than just a larger space to accommodate people. It offers unparalleled views from the mountains and oceans as if the place exists in the middle of nowhere, a nowhere where you can find yourself through introspection with the help of nature’s silence.

The nearest city to the project is Christchurch, where small shops can help you find essentials. As part of the interior design of the house, the architect used driftwood and other materials that were found around the farm. An impressive stone fireplace separates the living, dining, and kitchen areas of the main living space – built from rocks found in the nearby remote rock quarry. Being intrinsically woven into the landscape, Scrubby Bay is more than just a place to stay and we are going to have a complete virtual tour. So, let’s start.

The Exteriors of Scrubby Bay.

The project’s layout consists of two simple gabled barn forms that are slotted together against the natural landscape. You can see the two horizontal fronts of the house, one with a large entertainment deck facing the ocean and a pool over the mountainside. Over the large entertainment deck side, there is a long extended view of the waters while it opens up the living room inside. It is almost like a small beach with fresh water and deposition of stones over the shoreline. The natural vegetation surrounding the home contrasts the exterior look of the structure well.

Entering the Living Cum Dining Area.

As you enter the living room of Scrubby Bay, you are instantly greeted by an open-air space with dark wooden macrocarpa interiors, detailed by black steel fittings. Further, there is use of timber, giving a sophisticated interior design to the cabin house. Everything inside is in a warm color coordination, which is soothing for the visitor. One of the massive characteristics of the interiors which literally makes it stand apart from other cabins is the use of rock quarried from the station to build a fireplace. There is an inbuilt library with an L-sized sofa to regenerate a better thought procedure while enjoying the terrific nature views. Everything here is Bespoke whether the hanging black soft lights or the black color dining seating.

Each of the corners has a better seating area to enjoy every view of the outside while adding up space for accommodation.

Bedrooms and Bathroom of the Most Secluded Cabin.

There are three master bedrooms in the structure, which are spread through gable forms, one on each end, which is why every master bedroom offers a view of the ocean and swimming pool at the same time. Designed with simplicity, each of the places has only the essentials, like a bed with a chair in the bedroom and bathroom furnishings in the restroom.

Final Words.

There is a lot to explore in Scrubby Bay, whether it be the somber and quiet interiors or the terrific location with a powerful natural setting. Listed on Annandale, this secluded cabin is a must-place for a perfect staycation and is completely safe. However, I would still suggest you go with a 14-16 member group.
